I’m an opinionated, but very ordinary Australian who has an interest in politics, both domestic and foreign, international relations, religion and films. As an unashamed atheist, I believe that one day the world will be free of the dogma of the largely hereditary and divisive condition known as religion, to be replaced with a secular non-sectarian humanism…
My comments on politics will betray my left-wing skew…
My less than cerebral appreciation of movies puts me smack in the mainstream… Hell, my favourite film is Lawrence of Arabia (1962), with 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), The Godfather (1972), Star Wars (1977), Goodfellas (1990), Apocalypse Now (1979), and Batman Begins (2005), in hot pursuit…
Musically, I like all things Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Elgar, Grieg, Mahler, Mozart, Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky (but not too keen on J.S. Bach) as well as bands like Alice In Chains, At The Drive-In, Biffy Clyro, Birds Of Tokyo, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, Karnivool, Kings Of Leon, Led Zeppelin, Mumford & Sons, Muse, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Saosin, Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday, and Tool.
For the geeks: Francis Ford Coppola directed both The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall appear in both.
Note: I have a personal dislike for the aesthetic vandalism represented by underlined links, so wherever possible in my blog posts, they will look like this, as you can see with the links above.
Then again some links are cunningly disguised as Large Bold Black headlines.
Agree completely with your list of films and bands/composers/musical entertainers. As an American observer of your remarkably well-informed blog, I beg that you consider spending some time with James Brown, the Godfather of Soul and the (self-proclaimed) Hardest Working Man in Show Business. Warmest regards, Nigel
